Starting today, my roommate Rachel, my friend Kelly (and anyone else that wants to!), and me are fasting from buying clothes for the entire school year. Exceptions are something we ABSOLUTELY need for a job and underwear.
What made me want to do this was being in Peru, and only having the option of wearing what was in my one suitcase for 6 weeks. I LOVED it. It made choosing an outfit infinitely easier than when I have my whole closet to look it, and, I had to be more creative with what I did have to keep my outfits from all looking the same.
When I got home from Peru, I went through all of my clothes and gave away a lot of them. The clothes I have at school this semester are much more limited, but I am enjoying the simplicity of having less. Maybe less really is more!
So, reasons I am doing this clothing fast:
-To save money for my post-college life
-To be content and grateful for what I already have.
-To fill my time with more meaningful activities than shopping
-To learn how to live more simply in this area, that will hopefully translate to other areas
I don't think shopping is necessarily wrong and that everyone should do a shopping diet, but I am beyond excited for how God can possibly use this challenge to grow me. It also doesn't hurt that I have 45 other girls on my floor that will surely let me borrow their clothes if I get to the point of wanting to burn all of mine because I'm so tired of them.
I'll keep you updated on how this goes :)
You have obviously realized an essential truth, Emily, that will surely carry over into other areas of your life.
