Im sick again, unfortunately, with the same sore throat and headache as last time (praise God that I still havent gotten sick from the food!)
Cusco this weekend was fun. We left early saturday morning and went to three different Incan ruin sites, the biggest of which is called Saqsaywaman (sounds like Sexy Woman haha). The size of the stones and literally everything about them were incredible. It got me so excited for Machu Picchu! Also, we had a tour guide with us the whole time who knew a ton about the history. Lunch at a Peruvian restaurant was included after that and I got trout! SO good.
Speaking of food, I didnt realize how addicted I am till peanut butter until I came here. I literally think about it a couple times a day. In Cusco last weekend when we ate at this super cool restaurant with tons of good food, I ordered a PBJ because it was on the menu. I know I paid a little too much for it, but it was delicious. They sell it here everywhere, but its really expensive. However, for M.P. this weekend Ashley and I are bringing most of our food so we splurged on a jar of peanut butter to go with our bread, yes!!
Ok, back to Cusco...in the afternoon we checked into our super cool hostel. It had lots of lounge areas and hammocks and was only $10 a night (and, they have the warmest showers I have ever felt!). Saturday night we hung out in the plaza because they were having a huge Peruvian festival to celebrate the Summer Solstice, I believe. There was traditional singing and dancing, lights, and fireworks at the end. Literally, there were so many people everywhere that it was hard to move, which may explain how...
My camera was stolen :( :( I had it in a tiny across-the-shoulder purse that was closed at the top and I literally kept my hand on my purse probably 90% because I was really aware of pick pockets. I know it wasnt just lost because ten minutes before I couldnt find it, I had taken a picture. Im bummed, but just happy that it wasnt something potentially more important, like my passport. Ill buy a disposable camera to document the rest of my trip.
Sunday morning we got up around 7 to go rafting on the Rio Urubamba, about half an hour away from Urubamba. It was very fun and relaxing. The highest class of rapids was a 3 so it wasnt very intense. (Dad, I dont know if this or West Virginia rafting was prettier. The river here was pretty dirty, but we were in the Andes mountains so that made up for it!)
The rest of Sunday I rested and hung out at home. My host mom made a big meal for Fathers Day and a lot of their family came over.
I have to go now but more later!
Emily,
ReplyDeleteI will pray you feel better soon. I am guessing the river water you rafted in was real cold, which probably explains your sore throat. My heart sunk when you said your camera was stolen. I know you lost lots of good pictures! Hopefully Ashley has taken pictures she can share with you later. Maybe your old mom isn't as paranoid as you once thought when I lecture you and your sisters on "evil" people that are looking to take advantage of people any way they can! At least you are safe. That is what really matters to me!
