The past 2 days have been long, but not necessarily in a bad way. I have just had a lot of work! Yesterday I went to my 1st grade classroom to TA and oh my gosh those kids are CRAZY. They are so loud and pretty disobedient, especially when their teacher leaves the room. I am realy getting the chance to practice my commands in Spanish, seriously. In all seriousness though, the kids are very sweet and they made me play with them at recess (we played Pato, Pato, Condor, which is Duck, Duck, Goose!). And they either call me Emily or Profe (short for Profesora), which is so cute! It is sad to see these kids not having clean bathrooms in their school, or a clean place to play. There is a canal type thing right by where they have recess with horribly dirty, stagnant water in it. When they are playing soccer or volleyball the ball is guaranteed to go in.

Today I went to my other elementary school to teach English to 5th and 6th graders, for about an hour. I feel like half the class is over-eager to learn English, and the other half could care less. It makes for an interesting class. After that, I rushed home to work on my nutrition presentation for this afternoon at the womens group in Calca. Because of Enti Raymi and a strike, this is only the 2nd time Ive been. I must say that these women are so enjoyable to be around and are genuinely excited to be there! They have been meeting for about a year I think and know each other much better than the Urubamba group. My presentation took almost an hour when the content was probably only 15-minutes worth because the women make so many jokes and have tons of questions. I dont really like making presentations in English. Everything always seems so eloquent in my mind, but when I open my mouth it all gets jumbled. Well, its definitely harder in Spanish. But, I am so grateful for this opportunity and the experience I am getting working with women who have not had access to the education and resources that I have. Its very humbling. Anyway, after the presentation, Adriana made the women a fruit salad with yogurt and granola to explain some of what I covered in my presentation. It was supposed to be interactive, but we ran out of time. Things never seem to go as planned here :)

In other news, my dearest roommate and friend Ashley is leaving tomorrow :(. I am going to miss her dearly and have been so grateful to have gotten to know her this past month. Its going to be weird not having her to debrief with at the end of every day and laugh at the ridiculous things in Urubamba.

Please pray for:
-my host family. They badly need Jesus! Also, my little baby sister is sick (something is wrong with her heart) and she needs surgery, but there is a waiting list and its very expensive. She is so tiny but has the biggest, most beautiful eyes. I love it when I get to hold her!
-that I would be loving and a servant in my interactions with my family and everyone here.
Thanks for reading, praying, commenting.
Love,
Emily

F o r  K e n d r i c k: I know if you could have, you would have come to Machu Picchu with me this weekend. Instead, you are busy making sure boys like Gangwoo don´t get too cu-razy down in Hart this summer. Please keep the texts coming, they make my day!

  1. Emily,
I always eagerly look for your blogs. I am glad to get your updates. It sounds like you are being asked to do a lot of different things through your agency. I am sure your faith is being stretched, which is a good thing! All is well at home. Dad just posted his first blog from the Philippines, so now I have two bloggers to anxiously hear from! I know you will be sad to say good-bye to Ashley. Is someone else moving into your host home? I love you! Mom

  2. My whole purpose in sending you this message is to tell you about my frustration with my Chinese music cds I brought back. They were not made for American cd players!! I still need to try my computer. If they do end up working I am going to get you hooked on Chinese music. Just so you know! Wo ai ni!
