The past few days have been BUSY but really good. I can´t believe Im leaving next week!
Tuesday for our volunteer dinner me and 3 of the old volunteers cooked. I went to the market early in the day to buy everything, which was really fun. It was challenging though, figuring out how to buy things like baking powder when you have no idea how to say it. Anyways, we cooked pancakes, fruit salad, and egg frittata. I was in charge of the pancakes, and thankfully they turned out good though I had never tried the recipe before. The office is so crowded now with 15 new people here.
Tuesday was also Dia de Maestro (Teachers Day), so there was once again no school. I guess it makes sense that teachers don´t have to teach on their day, but then again, the students don´t get to see their teachers that day and celebrate with them!
Yesterday I went to my 1st grade class and organized their classroom most of the day. They had so many drawings and art projects floating around that needed to be put into each student´s folder. I was glad to help and will hopefully finish on Friday. I am really going to miss these kids. They are all cute, but there is one boy named Rubiñol that is especially precious. He smiles all the time and is missing 3 or 4 of his front teeth right now! He always kisses me on the cheek when he leaves and says Ciao. Ahh so cute!!
Last night I went out to eat at Pizza Wasi with my new roommate Kat and 2 other new volunteers. Kat is so sweet and Im having fun getting to know her.
Today I went to teach English in Yucay but we ended up playing games outside most of the time haha. Next week they told me that they want to learn animals, vegetables, and fruits and seemed excited about it so hopefully they actually will want to learn.
This afternoon I am going to Calca for the women´s group and Im super excited that 3 of the new volunteers ae working on this project also! It helps that Adriana and I now have more help and more people to bounce ideas off of. Today we are doing a presentation on alcoholism (because it is a huge problem here) and then one of the new volunteers is going to lead us in yoga/relaxation exercises.
Thanks so much for praying for my energy level. I´m feeling better and looking forward to the next week and a half here. God is teaching me lots of things and hopefully I can share some of them soon.
